Roles and responsibilities
Anjarwalla & Khanna has a track record of advising sponsors, banks and financial institutions on their most intricate and high value projects in Kenya and across the region. Our practice involves all sectors including oil and gas, power, renewables, water and waste, airports and roads, as well as PPPs.
Our projects practice advises clients throughout every stage of a project’s life cycle including project structuring, regulatory and compliance advice, financing, risk analysis, project due diligence, preparation of project documentation and contract negotiation, planning, environment and land advice, equity and tax structuring and projects M&A.
We are seeking a high calibre Associate to join our leading Projects and Infrastructure department.
The areas of responsibility include:
- Assisting senior lawyers and partners in order to develop assigned work products;
- Assisting with initial drafts and review of various commercial agreements;
- Assisting with drafting ancillary documentation and document management in various transactions;
- Assisting in due diligence investigations and working as part of due diligence teams;
- Undertaking legal research and assisting in drafting opinions on various legal and regulatory matters;
- Developing firm know-how;
- Managing and delegating assignments to paralegals, trainees and interns;
- Assisting in various business development initiatives for the firm; and
- Assisting senior lawyers and partners in managing billings on all matters including raising invoices and following up for payment.
Experience and personal qualities
- Law Degree and an advocate of the High Court of Kenya or equivalent qualifications.
- Must be qualified from a Common Law jurisdiction.
- At least 2-4 years’ post qualification experience in a fast-paced projects and infrastructure legal environment.
- Demonstrated experience in working on large scale transactions with multiple stakeholders and client handling skills.
- Keen eye for detail.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Proficient in the use of IT Systems including Microsoft Office packages.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate clearly with a range of people from diverse backgrounds.
