  1. Background

    Yassin M. Maka is Head of Litigation at ALN Tanzania and a seasoned dispute resolution lawyer with over 8 years of progressive legal experience in Tanzania. He specialises in commercial litigation, banking and finance disputes, construction and infrastructure disputes, energy and mining litigation, telecommunications and technology disputes, shipping and trade disputes, competition and regulatory disputes, public procurement litigation, and complex employment and family law matters.

    Yassin regularly advises multinational corporations, financial institutions, SMEs, logistics companies, investors, and private clients across a broad range of contentious and risk management matters. He has extensive experience representing clients before the Court of Appeal of Tanzania, the High Court of Tanzania (Commercial, Land, Labour and Probate Divisions), subordinate courts, and specialised tribunals and regulatory bodies.

    He has acted in high-value debt recovery and enforcement proceedings, EPC/EPCM disputes, procurement appeals, shareholder disputes, marine and cargo claims, land and real estate disputes, labour matters, and regulatory enforcement proceedings. His experience also includes advising clients on litigation strategy, regulatory risk, fraud investigations, and cross-border dispute resolution matters.

    Prior to returning to private practice, Yassin served as Group Legal Counsel for Toyota Tanzania Limited and its affiliates, where he led dispute management, coordinated external counsel, advised on regulatory and compliance matters, and managed high-value commercial and employment disputes.
