Flipflopi envisions a world without single-use plastic and are leading a plastic-reuse revolution through education, sailing expeditions, storytelling and campaigns. In 2019 they built a traditional sailing dhow from recycled plastic covered with discarded flipflops washed up from the ocean (how they got the name) and sailed 500km up the East African coast, stopping at 12 communities on the way to highlight their cause. And they intend to keep sailing.

ALN Kenya are key partners, providing critical support to this first expedition and sharing the message far and wide, while working to reduce our own reliance on single use plastic. We are now working for legislative change to ban single-use plastic in all six countries across East Africa. The bill will take a lead in the global fight against unnecessary single-use plastic and have significant health and environmental benefits by banning its manufacture, sale and importation.
