Nigeria’s energy landscape is marked by vast potential and persistent challenges. As one of Africa’s largest oil producers and holder of the continent’s largest natural gas reserves, the country has long relied on hydrocarbons as a backbone of its economy.

In recent years, however, Nigeria has shown increasing momentum towards diversifying its energy mix and embracing renewable energy. The country’s Energy Transition Plan aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060 while also addressing energy poverty, with a focus on scaling solar power and decentralised energy solutions. The private sector has also begun to play a more prominent role, with increased investment in solar mini-grids, gas-to-power projects, and off-grid technologies.
