In a world where challenges often loom large, ALN has once again proven its commitment to being a catalyst for change. This year, we had the honour of being nominated for the prestigious TrustLaw Awards 2023, an accolade that acknowledges our impactful partnership with TrustLaw, Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono service and the world’s largest pro bono network.
Our journey into the heart of this impactful collaboration took us to Kenya, where we embarked on a mission of immense significance. Together with TrustLaw, we ventured into the complex landscape of legal and regulatory frameworks governing firearms ownership, handling, and use in this vibrant East African nation.
The spark for this crucial research was ignited by the harrowing spectre of gun violence that has gripped South Africa. In a world that should be safe for all, Gun Free South Africa (GFSA) stands as a beacon of hope. GFSA’s mission is clear: to make South Africa safe by combating the pervasive threat of gun violence. They do so through tireless public policy advocacy, education, awareness campaigns, and the mobilization of communities.
ALN’s partnership with TrustLaw was an embodiment of our unwavering commitment to making a tangible difference in the world. Together, we delved deep into the intricate legal tapestry that governs firearms in Kenya, with the goal of shedding light on potential solutions to the global menace of gun violence.
The TrustLaw Awards are a testament to our dedication. They honour the most exceptional pro bono projects executed by legal teams in close collaboration with NGOs and social enterprises worldwide. This recognition reinforces the fact that our work extends beyond the boardroom, beyond legal jargon—it’s about shaping a safer, more secure world for all.
At ALN, we are not just lawyers; we are advocates for change. Our partnership with TrustLaw underscores our commitment to addressing real-world challenges and making a positive impact on the communities we serve. It’s a reminder that even in the face of adversity, we have the power to illuminate the path to a safer, more just world. Together, we shine brighter, and together, we strive for a future free from the shadows of gun violence.
