    Deephallee Harnaran is an associate within the Dispute Resolution practice at BLC Robert & Associates.

    Deephallee’s experience encompasses civil, commercial, insolvency disputes and matters under the International Arbitration Act 2008. She regularly appears before the Courts and Tribunals of Mauritius and is involved in advisory work with a particular focus on insurance matters.

    Deephallee has a keen interest in arbitration and has contributed to the ‘Chambers Global Guide’ on International Arbitration (Mauritius) and co-authored its Trends and Development article in 2023. She also acts as junior counsel in domestic and international arbitrations.

    Dispute Resolution

    • Acting as junior counsel for the applicants in an action under sections 20 and 39 of the International Arbitration Act 2008 challenging the sole arbitrator’s ruling that she did not have jurisdiction. The Applicants has so far successfully obtained a ruling in their favour on a preliminary jurisdictional point: Digame Investment Company Limited & Ors v Apex Fund and Corporate Services (Mauritius) Ltd 2023 SCJ 273.
    • Acting as junior counsel for the Respondents in an arbitration before the Mauritius International Arbitration Centre in a high value claim of USD 5.5 million in relation to a share purchase agreement.
    • Acting as junior counsel in an international arbitration for the Respondent, a developer and/or promoter of a high value real estate project in Mauritius against a claim under a broker agreement.
    • Acting as junior counsel for the applicant, a company incorporated in Mauritius for the purpose of investing and developing agricultural projects in Nigeria, seeking an interlocutory Mareva order under section 23 of the International Arbitration 2008.
    • Acting as junior counsel for the applicant, a non-executive director of a private company holding a Category 1 global business licence, against the Mauritius Revenue Authority’s decision holding him personally liable for the alleged unpaid tax due by the company in the sum of USD 77,535.52.
    • Successfully acted as junior counsel for the applicant, a leading company in the healthcare industry, in a review, before the Independent Review Panel, of a procurement proceeding rejecting its offer (Independent Review Panel- Decision No.27/22).
