Faith is an Associate in the Tax and International Trade practices at ALN Kenya | Anjarwalla & Khanna, the leading corporate law firm in Kenya and the largest full-service corporate firm in East Africa. She has a broad range of experience in international law and is well-versed in International Trade and Investment law. Her experience is largely on regional integration, African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), instruments of trade negotiations and policy implementation, development trade finance and settlement of investment disputes.
Chelangat’s wealthy experience in international trade and investment has led to her recent engagement with United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), in collaboration with the African Sovereign Debt Justice Network (AfSDJN) as a trade lawyer to provide expertise on leveraging trade finance to boost trade in Africa. Additionally, her passion and enthusiasm for trade and investment in Africa occasioned her invitation to participate in the Singapore International Arbitration Academy, 2024 to provide insights on AfCFTA and the Investment Protocol, business and human rights, and systems of resolution of investment disputes.
She has also been actively involved in trade negotiations while serving at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), a German Agency for international cooperation. She registers her participation in AfCFTA Financial Services negotiations, Trade in Services Negotiations and Advanced Training in Rules of Origin (RoO), in conjunction with several ministries in Kenya.
Chelangat has extensive trade research experience in the Southern Africa region. She has been involved in a research project for the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria in collaboration with the World Bank, on utilization of National Contact Points (NCPs) according to OECD Guidelines for restructuring of sovereign debt in African and Asian countries, with a focus on Zimbabwe and Zambia. Additionally, she has academic journals under peer review by the African International Economic Law Journal (AfIELJ), University of Pretoria and the United Nations University Institute in Comparative Regional Integration Studies in Belgium (UNU-CRIS). Her research is on the implementation of the AfCFTA by examining African countries participating in the Guided Trade Initiative and examining the role of regional economic communities in the implementation of the AfCFTA.
Chelangat holds a Master of Laws degree in International Trade and Investment Law in Africa from the University of Pretoria, South Africa and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Africa Nazarene University.
