Nahom Getachew

Nahom is an Associate at MTA. He is a corporate lawyer with years of legal experience in project finance, infrastructure, mining, energy, tax and corporate matters. In MTA he navigates complex legal landscapes, providing strategic guidance to both international and domestic clients. Through his business-focused approach and practical legal solutions, he delivers impactful results.  

Before joining MTA, Nahom gained diverse legal experience across the public and private sectors. His previous roles include serving as a Prosecutor at the Ministry of Justice, working as an Assistant Lawyer, providing legal advisory support at the Center for Human Rights, and contributing to legal research as a Research Assistant at the Legal and Justice Affairs Advisory Council.

• Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank (TDB) financing of the Tulu Kapi Gold Project for the development and operation of large-scale gold mine.  

• International Finance Corporation (IFC) financing of IPT PowerTech Ethiopia for the expansion and roll-out of telecom energy services in Ethiopia. 

• European Investment Bank (EIB) and other Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) financing of IPT Holding. 

Provided tax advisory services to institutions, including: 

• PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in relation to the Ethiopian tax system  

• Mastercard Foundation as part of a multi-jurisdictional tax advisory service 

• Holland Dairy in relation to tax administration matters.  

Advising on infrastructure and renewable energy projects, including: 

• Acting for IFC (as transaction advisor to Ethiopian Electric Power) in connection with the development, financing, and operation of a wind power project in Ethiopia  

• Acting for IFC on two rounds of solar power projects (250 MW and 750 MW) for the development, financing, and operation of solar electric power plants. 

Advising on Ethiopia’s first healthcare sector Public Private Partnership, involving diagnostic and laboratory services, acting for members of a consortium engaged in the PPP arrangement. 

Advising and assisting in registration Ahadu Bank S.C for the registration with the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA) 

Advising on corporate and investment matters for multinational and local companies, including Deloitte, Boortmalt, DHL Ethiopia, Asiatic Industries, CCI Ethiopia, Zoscales Partners, Plaza Premium Lounge, AI Foods, and Rockstone.
