For Japanese businesses and investors, however, commercial opportunity is only one part of the investment equation. Tax considerations can influence the choice of investment vehicle, funding arrangements, profit repatriation and, ultimately, investment returns. Understanding Kenya’s tax framework at the outset is therefore an important part of assessing and structuring an investment.

In this article, we provide an overview of Kenya’s principal taxes, investment incentives and key structuring considerations relevant to Japanese businesses and investors. The analysis reflects the law in force as of July 2026, including amendments introduced under the Finance Act, 2026.
