Valerie Chege

Valerie Chege is an Associate at ALN Kenya | Anjarwalla & Khanna and a member of the Real Estate and Construction department. She advises on real estate transactions including acquisition and sale of property, due diligence exercises, all aspects of real estate developments and project financing.

She has acted for clients in a variety of sectors and industries including real estate developers, corporates, local and international banks, developmental financial institutions and multilateral institutions.

Real Estate

• Acting for Mi Vida Thika Road and Garden City Residential in complex and standard real estate assignments through advising and negotiating various project documents and preparing and closing on various agreements for sale and long-term leases for buyers.
• Acting for a leading developer of a proposed mixed-use development on approximately 2,500 acres in the preparation and negotiation of agreements for sale to purchasers and registration of long term residential leases.
• Acting for joint venture partners in a proposed residential development in Karen including the drafting and negotiation of the joint venture agreement, legal structuring of the development, preparing and negotiating all project documentation.
• Part of the legal advisory team advising the largest telecommunication company in Kenya on the occupation and maintenance of rooftop, greenfield and retail premises. This entailed negotiating and perfecting commercially viable short-term leases and legal resolution of landlord-tenant disputes.
• Acting for various property owners in the preparation of commercial leases for office spaces and go-downs.

Banking

• Acting for several top tier financial institutions in Kenya in security perfection for a wide variety of secured lending transactions including individual facilities, corporate finance, loan takeovers, syndicated loans, construction financing, land acquisition financing and cross-border financing transactions.
• Acting on a banking and finance legal advisory team on the first-ever proposed airport concession in Kenya pursuant to a Privately Initiated Investment Proposal under the Public Private Partnerships Act, 2013.
